DESCRIPTION

Targeting cancer complexity at origin and progression

Our research is focused on better understanding breast cancer initiation and, from acquired knowledge, to assess targeted prevention strategies. In parallel, we study pan-cancer vulnerabilities and the connection to a rare, lung metastatic disease, lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM).

Gene Expression Integration into Pathway Modules Reveals a Pan-Cancer Metabolic Landscape

    24 de August de 2018/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Cancer Res. 2018 Nov 1;78(21):6059-6072. doi: 10.1158/0008-5472.CAN-17-2705. Epub 2018 Aug 22. ABSTRACT Metabolic reprogramming plays an important role in cancer development and progression and is a well-established hallmark of cancer. Despite its inherent complexity, cellular metabolism can be decomposed into functional modules that represent fundamental metabolic processes. Here, we performed a pan-cancer study involving 9,428 […]

Subjugation of TGFβ Signaling by Human Papilloma Virus in Head and Neck Squamous Cell Carcinoma Shifts DNA Repair from Homologous Recombination to Alternative End Joining

    9 de August de 2018/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

ABSTRACT PURPOSE: Following cytotoxic therapy, 70% of patients with human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive oropharyngeal head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) are alive at 5 years compared with 30% of those with similar HPV-negative cancer. Loss of TGFβ signaling is a poorly studied consequence […]

A Transcriptome-Wide Association Study Among 97,898 Women to Identify Candidate Susceptibility Genes for Epithelial Ovarian Cancer Risk

    29 de July de 2018/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Cancer Res. 2018 Sep 15;78(18):5419-5430. doi: 10.1158/0008-5472.CAN-18-0951. Epub 2018 Jul 27. ABSTRACT Large-scale genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified approximately 35 loci associated with epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) risk. The majority of GWAS-identified disease susceptibility variants are located in noncoding regions, and causal genes underlying these associations remain largely unknown. Here, we performed a transcriptome-wide […]

Decapping protein EDC4 regulates DNA repair and phenocopies BRCA1

    8 de March de 2018/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Nat Commun. 2018 Mar 6;9(1):967. doi: 10.1038/s41467-018-03433-3. ABSTRACT BRCA1 is a tumor suppressor that regulates DNA repair by homologous recombination. Germline mutations in BRCA1 are associated with increased risk of breast and ovarian cancer and BRCA1 deficient tumors are exquisitely sensitive to poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors. Therefore, uncovering additional components of this DNA repair […]

    Research Projects

The group works and collaborates to decipher the systems mechanisms of cancer development and progression, with the aim of developing more precise preventive and therapeutic approaches. The group combines in silico and wet-lab studies for the purpose of identifying cancer principles and vulnerabilities.
