DESCRIPTION

Targeting cancer complexity at origin and progression

Our research is focused on better understanding breast cancer initiation and, from acquired knowledge, to assess targeted prevention strategies. In parallel, we study pan-cancer vulnerabilities and the connection to a rare, lung metastatic disease, lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM).

Risk of breast cancer in patients with lymphangioleiomyomatosis

    2 de July de 2019/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Cancer Epidemiol. 2019 Aug;61:154-156. doi: 10.1016/j.canep.2019.06.004. Epub 2019 Jun 28. ABSTRACT Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare metastasizing pulmonary disease that shares some clinical, cellular, and molecular similarities with metastatic breast cancer to lung. LAM cells have been identified circulating in various body fluids of patients and, intriguingly, diverse evidence indicates that these cells may originate […]

Chromosome 12p Amplification in Triple-Negative/BRCA1-Mutated Breast Cancer Associates with Emergence of Docetaxel Resistance and Carboplatin Sensitivity

ABSTRACT Taxanes are the mainstay of treatment in triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), with de novo and acquired resistance limiting patient’s survival. To investigate the genetic basis of docetaxel resistance in TNBC, exome sequencing was performed on matched TNBC patient-derived xenografts (PDX) sensitive to docetaxel […]

A genome-wide association study implicates NR2F2 in lymphangioleiomyomatosis pathogenesis

    20 de April de 2019/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

ABSTRACT INTRODUCTION: Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) occurs either associated with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) or as sporadic disease (S-LAM). Risk factors for development of S-LAM are unknown. We hypothesised that DNA sequence variants outside of TSC2/TSC1 might be associated with susceptibility for S-LAM and performed a […]

Differential metabolic activity and discovery of therapeutic targets using summarized metabolic pathway models

    12 de March de 2019/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

NPJ Syst Biol Appl. 2019 Mar 1;5:7. doi: 10.1038/s41540-019-0087-2. eCollection 2019. ABSTRACT In spite of the increasing availability of genomic and transcriptomic data, there is still a gap between the detection of perturbations in gene expression and the understanding of their contribution to the molecular mechanisms that ultimately account for the phenotype studied. Alterations in […]

ABSTRACT The combination of immune checkpoint blockade with chemotherapy is currently under investigation as a promising strategy for the treatment of triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). Tumor-associated macrophages (TAMs) are the most prominent component of the breast cancer microenvironment […]

    Research Projects

The group works and collaborates to decipher the systems mechanisms of cancer development and progression, with the aim of developing more precise preventive and therapeutic approaches. The group combines in silico and wet-lab studies for the purpose of identifying cancer principles and vulnerabilities.
