DESCRIPTION

Targeting cancer complexity at origin and progression

Our research is focused on better understanding breast cancer initiation and, from acquired knowledge, to assess targeted prevention strategies. In parallel, we study pan-cancer vulnerabilities and the connection to a rare, lung metastatic disease, lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM).

Radioresistance of mesenchymal glioblastoma initiating cells correlates with patient outcome and is associated with activation of inflammatory program

    2 de November de 2017/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Oncotarget. 2017 Jun 3;8(43):73640-73653. doi: 10.18632/oncotarget.18363. eCollection 2017 Sep 26. ABSTRACT Glioblastoma (GBM) still remains an incurable disease being radiotherapy (RT) the mainstay treatment. Glioblastoma intra-tumoral heterogeneity and Glioblastoma-Initiating Cells (GICs) challenge the design of effective therapies. We investigated GICs and non-GICs response to RT in a paired in-vitro model and addressed molecular programs activated […]

Identification of ten variants associated with risk of estrogen-receptor-negative breast cancer

    24 de October de 2017/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Nat Genet. 2017 Dec;49(12):1767-1778. doi: 10.1038/ng.3785. Epub 2017 Oct 23. ABSTRACT Most common breast cancer susceptibility variants have been identified through genome-wide association studies (GWAS) of predominantly estrogen receptor (ER)-positive disease. We conducted a GWAS using 21,468 ER-negative cases and 100,594 controls combined with 18,908 BRCA1 mutation carriers (9,414 with breast cancer), all of European […]

Cell Cycle-Dependent Tumor Engraftment and Migration Are Enabled by Aurora-A

    11 de October de 2017/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Mol Cancer Res. 2018 Jan;16(1):16-31. doi: 10.1158/1541-7786.MCR-17-0417. Epub 2017 Oct 9. ABSTRACT Cell-cycle progression and the acquisition of a migratory phenotype are hallmarks of human carcinoma cells that are perceived as independent processes but may be interconnected by molecular pathways that control microtubule nucleation at centrosomes. Here, cell-cycle progression dramatically impacts the engraftment kinetics of […]

DNA Methylomes Reveal Biological Networks Involved in Human Eye Development, Functions and Associated Disorders

    20 de September de 2017/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Sci Rep. 2017 Sep 18;7(1):11762. doi: 10.1038/s41598-017-12084-1. ABSTRACT This work provides a comprehensive CpG methylation landscape of the different layers of the human eye that unveils the gene networks associated with their biological functions and how these are disrupted in common visual disorders. Herein, we firstly determined the role of CpG methylation in the regulation […]

Prediction of Breast and Prostate Cancer Risks in Male BRCA1 and BRCA2 Mutation Carriers Using Polygenic Risk Scores

    28 de April de 2017/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

J Clin Oncol. 2017 Jul 10;35(20):2240-2250. doi: 10.1200/JCO.2016.69.4935. Epub 2017 Apr 27. ABSTRACT Purpose BRCA1/2 mutations increase the risk of breast and prostate cancer in men. Common genetic variants modify cancer risks for female carriers of BRCA1/2 mutations. We investigated-for the first time to our knowledge-associations of common genetic variants with breast and prostate cancer […]

    Research Projects

The group works and collaborates to decipher the systems mechanisms of cancer development and progression, with the aim of developing more precise preventive and therapeutic approaches. The group combines in silico and wet-lab studies for the purpose of identifying cancer principles and vulnerabilities.
