DESCRIPTION

Targeting cancer complexity at origin and progression

Our research is focused on better understanding breast cancer initiation and, from acquired knowledge, to assess targeted prevention strategies. In parallel, we study pan-cancer vulnerabilities and the connection to a rare, lung metastatic disease, lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM).

BRCA1 controls the cell division axis and governs ploidy and phenotype in human mammary cells

    22 de April de 2017/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Oncotarget. 2017 May 16;8(20):32461-32475. doi: 10.18632/oncotarget.15688. ABSTRACT BRCA1 deficiency may perturb the differentiation hierarchy present in the normal mammary gland and is associated with the genesis of breast cancers that are genomically unstable and typically display a basal-like transcriptome. Oriented cell division is a mechanism known to regulate cell fates and to restrict tumor formation. […]

Identification of 12 new susceptibility loci for different histotypes of epithelial ovarian cancer

    28 de March de 2017/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Nat Genet. 2017 May;49(5):680-691. doi: 10.1038/ng.3826. Epub 2017 Mar 27. ABSTRACT To identify common alleles associated with different histotypes of epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC), we pooled data from multiple genome-wide genotyping projects totaling 25,509 EOC cases and 40,941 controls. We identified nine new susceptibility loci for different EOC histotypes: six for serous EOC histotypes (3q28, […]

AURKA Overexpression Is Driven by FOXM1 and MAPK/ERK Activation in Melanoma Cells Harboring BRAF or NRAS Mutations: Impact on Melanoma Prognosis and Therapy

    12 de February de 2017/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

J Invest Dermatol. 2017 Jun;137(6):1297-1310. doi: 10.1016/j.jid.2017.01.021. Epub 2017 Feb 7. ABSTRACT The cell cycle-related genes AURKA and FOXM1 are overexpressed in melanoma. We show here that AURKA overexpression is associated with poor prognosis in three independent cohorts of melanoma patients and correlates with the presence of genomic amplification of AURKA locus and BRAFV600E mutation. Cancer network activity associated with therapeutic response and synergism

    25 de August de 2016/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Genome Med. 2016 Aug 24;8(1):88. doi: 10.1186/s13073-016-0340-x. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Cancer patients often show no or only modest benefit from a given therapy. This major problem in oncology is generally attributed to the lack of specific predictive biomarkers, yet a global measure of cancer cell activity may support a comprehensive mechanistic understanding of therapy efficacy. We […]

RANK Signaling Blockade Reduces Breast Cancer Recurrence by Inducing Tumor Cell Differentiation

    3 de August de 2016/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Cancer Res. 2016 Oct 1;76(19):5857-5869. doi: 10.1158/0008-5472.CAN-15-2745. Epub 2016 Aug 1. ABSTRACT RANK expression is associated with poor prognosis in breast cancer even though its therapeutic potential remains unknown. RANKL and its receptor RANK are downstream effectors of the progesterone signaling pathway. However, RANK expression is enriched in hormone receptor negative adenocarcinomas, suggesting additional roles […]

    Research Projects

The group works and collaborates to decipher the systems mechanisms of cancer development and progression, with the aim of developing more precise preventive and therapeutic approaches. The group combines in silico and wet-lab studies for the purpose of identifying cancer principles and vulnerabilities.
