DESCRIPTION

Targeting cancer complexity at origin and progression

Our research is focused on better understanding breast cancer initiation and, from acquired knowledge, to assess targeted prevention strategies. In parallel, we study pan-cancer vulnerabilities and the connection to a rare, lung metastatic disease, lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM).

Altered regulation of BRCA1 exon 11 splicing is associated with breast cancer risk in carriers of BRCA1 pathogenic variants

    22 de August de 2021/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Hum Mutat. 2021 Nov;42(11):1488-1502. doi: 10.1002/humu.24276. Epub 2021 Aug 31. ABSTRACT Germline pathogenic variants in BRCA1 confer a high risk of developing breast and ovarian cancer. The BRCA1 exon 11 (formally exon 10) is one of the largest exons and codes for the nuclear localization signals of the corresponding gene product. This exon can be […]

Breast and Prostate Cancer Risks for Male BRCA1 and BRCA2 Pathogenic Variant Carriers Using Polygenic Risk Scores

    28 de July de 2021/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

J Natl Cancer Inst. 2022 Jan 11;114(1):109-122. doi: 10.1093/jnci/djab147. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Recent population-based female breast cancer and prostate cancer polygenic risk scores (PRS) have been developed. We assessed the associations of these PRS with breast and prostate cancer risks for male BRCA1 and BRCA2 pathogenic variant carriers. METHODS: 483 BRCA1 and 1318 BRCA2 European ancestry […]

Heterogeneity and Cancer-Related Features in Lymphangioleiomyomatosis Cells and Tissue

    27 de July de 2021/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Mol Cancer Res. 2021 Nov;19(11):1840-1853. doi: 10.1158/1541-7786.MCR-21-0220. Epub 2021 Jul 26. ABSTRACT Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare, low-grade metastasizing disease characterized by cystic lung destruction. LAM can exhibit extensive heterogeneity at the molecular, cellular, and tissue levels. However, the molecular similarities and differences among LAM cells and tissue, and their connection to cancer features are […]

Mammary epithelial cells have lineage-rooted metabolic identities

    25 de May de 2021/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Nat Metab. 2021 May;3(5):665-681. doi: 10.1038/s42255-021-00388-6. Epub 2021 May 20. ABSTRACT Cancer metabolism adapts the metabolic network of its tissue of origin. However, breast cancer is not a disease of a single origin. Multiple epithelial populations serve as the culprit cell of origin for specific breast cancer subtypes, yet our knowledge of the metabolic network […]

    Research Projects

The group works and collaborates to decipher the systems mechanisms of cancer development and progression, with the aim of developing more precise preventive and therapeutic approaches. The group combines in silico and wet-lab studies for the purpose of identifying cancer principles and vulnerabilities.
