Therapeutic resistance and hematological tumors
Sureda’s & Farre’s Lab

DESCRIPTION

Our group aims to gain a better understanding of the clinical characteristics and mechanisms of progression and therapeutic resistance of hematological tumors with a focus on multiple myeloma and aggressive T and B lymphomas to propose new therapeutic strategies.

The lab is interested in improving the understanding of the molecular mechanisms leading to the progression and therapeutic resistance of multiple myeloma, including extramedullary disease, Hodgkin lymphoma and aggressive non-Hodgkin B and T lymphomas.

To develop these lines of research, we use patient samples and advanced preclinical models for therapeutic, mechanistic and functional studies. We have developed the technology to generate murine models derived from patients by orthotopic implantation (orthotopic PDX) and 2D/3D cultures that we can humanize using components of the human immune system (from the same patient from whom the model has been derived, when possible). Additionally, we are involved in a project that is developing humanized nanomedicines as a new therapeutic strategy for acute myeloid leukemia.

Our group is integrated by professionals from the Clinical Hematology Service of ICO/Hospitalet, the ProCURE/ICO Program and the Pathology Service of the Hospital of Bellvitge. Within the Hematology Service of the ICO Hospitalet, one of our main objectives is to promote translational research training for the professionals of the Service, generating opportunities for the completion of doctoral theses and stimulating new scientific leadership as well as to attract talent with a mixed clinical/researcher profile for the Service.

Development and validation of the post-CAR prognostic index for large B-cell lymphoma patients after CAR-T progression in third or later line treatment

29 de October de 2024/in Sureda's & Farre's Lab/by

J Hematol Oncol. 2024 Oct 29;17(1):102. doi: 10.1186/s13045-024-01608-8. ABSTRACT Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy fails to achieve durable responses in over 60% of relapsed/refractory (R/R) large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) patients in the third or later line setting. After CAR-T failure, survival outcomes are heterogeneous and a prognostic model in this patient population is lacking. […]

Promoting Equitable and Affordable Patient Access to Safe and Effective Innovations in Donation and Transplantation of Substances of Human Origin and Derived Therapies

22 de October de 2024/in Sureda's & Farre's Lab/by

Transplantation. 2024 Oct 22. doi: 10.1097/TP.0000000000005169. Online ahead of print. ABSTRACT Innovation is a hallmark of organ, tissue, and cell transplantation. The development of new treatments derived from these substances of human origin (SoHO) has rapidly evolved in recent years. Despite the great benefits that these innovative therapies could bring to patients, significant difficulties have […]

Non-cryopreserved autologous peripheral blood stem cell transplantation for multiple myeloma and lymphoma in countries with limited resources: practice considerations from the Worldwide Network for Blood and Marrow Transplantation

7 de October de 2024/in Sureda's & Farre's Lab/by

Bone Marrow Transplant. 2024 Oct 7. doi: 10.1038/s41409-024-02431-y. Online ahead of print. ABSTRACT Autologous peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) transplantation is a standard treatment of multiple myeloma (MM), Hodgkin lymphoma and various subtypes of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Cryopreservation of hematopoietic stem cells is standard practice that allows time for delivery of conditioning regimen prior to cell […]

Epcoritamab in relapsed/refractory large B-cell lymphoma: 2-year follow-up from the pivotal EPCORE NHL-1 trial

25 de September de 2024/in Sureda's & Farre's Lab/by

Leukemia. 2024 Sep 25. doi: 10.1038/s41375-024-02410-8. Online ahead of print. ABSTRACT Primary results (median follow-up, 10.7 months) from the pivotal EPCORE® NHL-1 study in relapsed or refractory (R/R) large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) demonstrated deep, durable responses with epcoritamab, a CD3xCD20 bispecific antibody, when used as monotherapy. We report long-term efficacy and safety results in patients […]

Measurable Residual Disease by Mass Spectrometry and Next-Generation Flow to Assess Treatment Response in Myeloma

18 de September de 2024/in Sureda's & Farre's Lab/by

Blood. 2024 Sep 18:blood.2024024995. doi: 10.1182/blood.2024024995. Online ahead of print. ABSTRACT Quantitative immuneprecipitation mass-spectrometry (QIP-MS) allows the identification of the M-protein in patients with multiple myeloma (MM) otherwise in complete response, and could be considered suitable for measurable residual disease (MRD) evaluation in peripheral blood. In the context of the GEM2012MENOS65 and GEM2014MAIN trials, we […]
