DESCRIPTION

Targeting cancer complexity at origin and progression

Our research is focused on better understanding breast cancer initiation and, from acquired knowledge, to assess targeted prevention strategies. In parallel, we study pan-cancer vulnerabilities and the connection to a rare, lung metastatic disease, lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM).

Functional and structural analysis of C-terminal BRCA1 missense variants

    25 de April de 2013/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

PLoS One. 2013 Apr 17;8(4):e61302. doi: 10.1371/journal.pone.0061302. Print 2013. ABSTRACT Germline inactivating mutations in BRCA1 and BRCA2 genes are responsible for Hereditary Breast and Ovarian Cancer Syndrome (HBOCS). Genetic testing of these genes is available, although approximately 15% of tests identify variants of uncertain significance (VUS). Classification of these variants into pathogenic or non-pathogenic type […]

Genome-wide association study in BRCA1 mutation carriers identifies novel loci associated with breast and ovarian cancer risk

    2 de April de 2013/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

PLoS Genet. 2013;9(3):e1003212. doi: 10.1371/journal.pgen.1003212. Epub 2013 Mar 27. ABSTRACT BRCA1-associated breast and ovarian cancer risks can be modified by common genetic variants. To identify further cancer risk-modifying loci, we performed a multi-stage GWAS of 11,705 BRCA1 carriers (of whom 5,920 were diagnosed with breast and 1,839 were diagnosed with ovarian cancer), with a further […]

Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels and vitamin D receptor variants in melanoma patients from the Mediterranean area of Barcelona

    19 de February de 2013/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

BMC Med Genet. 2013 Feb 16;14:26. doi: 10.1186/1471-2350-14-26. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Serum 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 (Vitamin D) insufficiency and single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on its receptor, Vitamin D receptor (VDR), have been reported to be involved in melanoma susceptibility in populations mostly from northern countries. OBJECTIVE: To investigate 25-hydroxyvitamin D3 levels and VDR SNPs in melanoma patients from […]

Genomic imbalance of HMMR/RHAMM regulates the sensitivity and response of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumour cells to aurora kinase inhibition

    19 de January de 2013/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Oncotarget. 2013 Jan;4(1):80-93. doi: 10.18632/oncotarget.793. ABSTRACT Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumours (MPNST) are rare, hereditary cancers associated with neurofibromatosis type I. MPNSTs lack effective treatment options as they often resist chemotherapies and have high rates of disease recurrence. Aurora kinase A (AURKA) is an emerging target in cancer and an aurora kinase inhibitor (AKI), termed […]

DNA methylation plasticity of human adipose-derived stem cells in lineage commitment

    4 de October de 2012/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Am J Pathol. 2012 Dec;181(6):2079-93. doi: 10.1016/j.ajpath.2012.08.016. Epub 2012 Sep 29. ABSTRACT Adult stem cells have an enormous potential for clinical use in regenerative medicine that avoids many of the drawbacks characteristic of embryonic stem cells and induced pluripotent stem cells. In this context, easily obtainable human adipose-derived stem cells offer an interesting option for […]

    Research Projects

The group works and collaborates to decipher the systems mechanisms of cancer development and progression, with the aim of developing more precise preventive and therapeutic approaches. The group combines in silico and wet-lab studies for the purpose of identifying cancer principles and vulnerabilities.
