DESCRIPTION

Targeting cancer complexity at origin and progression

Our research is focused on better understanding breast cancer initiation and, from acquired knowledge, to assess targeted prevention strategies. In parallel, we study pan-cancer vulnerabilities and the connection to a rare, lung metastatic disease, lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM).

Germline Mutations in FAN1 Cause Hereditary Colorectal Cancer by Impairing DNA Repair

    9 de June de 2015/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Gastroenterology. 2015 Sep;149(3):563-6. doi: 10.1053/j.gastro.2015.05.056. Epub 2015 Jun 5. ABSTRACT Identification of genes associated with hereditary cancers facilitates management of patients with family histories of cancer. We performed exome sequencing of DNA from 3 individuals from a family with colorectal cancer who met the Amsterdam criteria for risk of hereditary nonpolyposis colorectal cancer. These individuals […]

Assessing associations between the AURKA-HMMR-TPX2-TUBG1 functional module and breast cancer risk in BRCA1/2 mutation carriers

    2 de April de 2015/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

PLoS One. 2015 Apr 1;10(4):e0120020. doi: 10.1371/journal.pone.0120020. eCollection 2015. ABSTRACT While interplay between BRCA1 and AURKA-RHAMM-TPX2-TUBG1 regulates mammary epithelial polarization, common genetic variation in HMMR (gene product RHAMM) may be associated with risk of breast cancer in BRCA1 mutation carriers. Following on these observations, we further assessed the link between the AURKA-HMMR-TPX2-TUBG1 functional module and […]

Comprehensive establishment and characterization of orthoxenograft mouse models of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors for personalized medicine

    27 de March de 2015/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

EMBO Mol Med. 2015 May;7(5):608-27. doi: 10.15252/emmm.201404430. ABSTRACT Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are soft-tissue sarcomas that can arise either sporadically or in association with neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1). These aggressive malignancies confer poor survival, with no effective therapy available. We present the generation and characterization of five distinct MPNST orthoxenograft models for preclinical […]

Identification of six new susceptibility loci for invasive epithelial ovarian cancer

    13 de January de 2015/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Nat Genet. 2015 Feb;47(2):164-71. doi: 10.1038/ng.3185. Epub 2015 Jan 12. ABSTRACT Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) have identified 12 epithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) susceptibility alleles. The pattern of association at these loci is consistent in BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutation carriers who are at high risk of EOC. After imputation to 1000 Genomes Project data, we assessed […]

Modules, networks and systems medicine for understanding disease and aiding diagnosis

    5 de December de 2014/in Pujana's Lab/by miguel

Genome Med. 2014 Oct 17;6(10):82. doi: 10.1186/s13073-014-0082-6. eCollection 2014. ABSTRACT Many common diseases, such as asthma, diabetes or obesity, involve altered interactions between thousands of genes. High-throughput techniques (omics) allow identification of such genes and their products, but functional understanding is a formidable challenge. Network-based analyses of omics data have identified modules of disease-associated genes […]

    Research Projects

The group works and collaborates to decipher the systems mechanisms of cancer development and progression, with the aim of developing more precise preventive and therapeutic approaches. The group combines in silico and wet-lab studies for the purpose of identifying cancer principles and vulnerabilities.
