Lung cancer survival trends and prognostic factors: A 26-year population-based study in Girona Province, Spain

24 de October de 2024/in Menendez's Lab/by

Lung Cancer. 2024 Oct 20;197:107995. doi: 10.1016/j.lungcan.2024.107995. Online ahead of print. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: Lung cancer (LC) is Europe’s primary cause of cancer-related mortality largely due to its historically low survival rates. The aim of this study was to analyze 26-year survival trends in the province of Girona, Spain, and to identify key prognostic factors. METHODS: […]

Fatty acid synthase (FASN) is a tumor-cell-intrinsic metabolic checkpoint restricting T-cell immunity

30 de September de 2024/in Menendez's Lab/by

Cell Death Discov. 2024 Sep 30;10(1):417. doi: 10.1038/s41420-024-02184-z. ABSTRACT Fatty acid synthase (FASN)-catalyzed endogenous lipogenesis is a hallmark of cancer metabolism. However, whether FASN is an intrinsic mechanism of tumor cell defense against T cell immunity remains unexplored. To test this hypothesis, here we combined bioinformatic analysis of the FASN-related immune cell landscape, real-time assessment […]

A theory of brain-computer interface learning via low-dimensional control

7 de May de 2024/in Menendez's Lab/by

bioRxiv [Preprint]. 2024 Apr 22:2024.04.18.589952. doi: 10.1101/2024.04.18.589952. ABSTRACT A remarkable demonstration of the flexibility of mammalian motor systems is primates’ ability to learn to control brain-computer interfaces (BCIs). This constitutes a completely novel motor behavior, yet primates are capable of learning to control BCIs under a wide range of conditions. BCIs with carefully calibrated decoders, […]

Silibinin is a suppressor of the metastasis-promoting transcription factor ID3

14 de March de 2024/in Menendez's Lab/by

Phytomedicine. 2024 Mar 6;128:155493. doi: 10.1016/j.phymed.2024.155493. Online ahead of print. ABSTRACT BACKGROUND: ID3 (inhibitor of DNA binding/differentiation-3) is a transcription factor that enables metastasis by promoting stem cell-like properties in endothelial and tumor cells. The milk thistle flavonolignan silibinin is a phytochemical with anti-metastatic potential through largely unknown mechanisms. HYPOTHESIS/PURPOSE: We have mechanistically investigated the […]

The Fatty Acid Synthase (FASN) signalome: A molecular guide for precision oncology

30 de December de 2023/in Menendez's Lab/by

Mol Oncol. 2023 Dec 29. doi: 10.1002/1878-0261.13582. Online ahead of print. ABSTRACT The initial excitement generated more than two decades ago by the discovery of drugs targeting fatty acid synthase (FASN)-catalyzed de novo lipogenesis for cancer therapy was short-lived. However, the advent of the first clinical-grade FASN inhibitor (TVB-2640; denifanstat), which is currently being studied […]
