DESCRIPTION

Mechanisms of resistance to antiangiogenic therapies.
Therapeutic studies in Kidney Cancer murine models, both PDOX and syngenic.
Therapeutic studies in pancreatic NeuroEndocrine tumors.
Discovery of non-invasive biomarkers in clinical trials with antiangiogenics.

Our research group at the ProCURE Program (Catalan Institute of Oncology) and OncoBell Program (IDIBELL) is focused on determining the consequences of adaptation and resistance to anti-angiogenic cancer therapy. For that we use translational research in murine models of cancer, particularly Kindey Cancer PDOX models and NeuroEndocrine transgenic models to study in vivo mechanisms of adaptation to anti-angiogenics, and validate our findings using clinical samples from our hospital and collaborating institutions.
Our scientific achievements have been published in prestigious journals in the field of cancer research with numerous “preview”, “highlight” or commentary articles in high impact scientific journals. Furthermore, we have an important international position in the field of antitumor therapies and angiogenic resistance mechanisms.

Therapeutic Benefit of Selective Inhibition of p110α PI3-Kinase in Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors

27 de May de 2016/in Casanovas's Lab/by miguel

Clin Cancer Res. 2016 Dec 1;22(23):5805-5817. doi: 10.1158/1078-0432.CCR-15-3051. Epub 2016 May 25. ABSTRACT PURPOSE: Mutations in the PI3K pathway occur in 16% of patients with pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PanNETs), which suggests that these tumors are an exciting setting for PI3K/AKT/mTOR pharmacologic intervention. Everolimus, an mTOR inhibitor, is being used to treat patients with advanced PanNETs. […]

Resistance to Antiangiogenic Therapies by Metabolic Symbiosis in Renal Cell Carcinoma PDX Models and Patients

3 de May de 2016/in Casanovas's Lab/by miguel

Cell Rep. 2016 May 10;15(6):1134-43. doi: 10.1016/j.celrep.2016.04.015. Epub 2016 Apr 28. ABSTRACT Antiangiogenic drugs are used clinically for treatment of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) as a standard first-line treatment. Nevertheless, these agents primarily serve to stabilize disease, and resistance eventually develops concomitant with progression. Here, we implicate metabolic symbiosis between tumor cells distal and proximal […]

Scanning, non-contact, hybrid broadband diffuse optical spectroscopy and diffuse correlation spectroscopy system

16 de March de 2016/in Casanovas's Lab/by miguel

Biomed Opt Express. 2016 Jan 15;7(2):481-98. doi: 10.1364/BOE.7.000481. eCollection 2016 Feb 1. ABSTRACT A scanning system for small animal imaging using non-contact, hybrid broadband diffuse optical spectroscopy (ncDOS) and diffuse correlation spectroscopy (ncDCS) is presented. The ncDOS uses a two-dimensional spectrophotometer retrieving broadband (610-900 nm) spectral information from up to fifty-seven source-detector distances between 2 […]

Antiangiogenic Resistance: Novel Angiogenesis Axes Uncovered by Antiangiogenic Therapies Research

2 de March de 2016/in Casanovas's Lab/by miguel

Curr Drug Targets. 2016;17(15):1728-1734. doi: 10.2174/1389450117666160301101425. ABSTRACT The mechanisms of tumor growth and progression involve the activation of different processes such as neovascularization and angiogenesis. These processes involve tumoral cells and stromal cells. Hence, inhibiting angiogenesis affects tumor growth and proliferation in patients with different types of cancer. Nevertheless, tumoral cells and stromal components are […]

MicroRNA-497 impairs the growth of chemoresistant neuroblastoma cells by targeting cell cycle, survival and vascular permeability genes

30 de January de 2016/in Casanovas's Lab/by miguel

Oncotarget. 2016 Feb 23;7(8):9271-87. doi: 10.18632/oncotarget.7005. ABSTRACT Despite multimodal therapies, a high percentage of high-risk neuroblastoma (NB) become refractory to current treatments, most of which interfere with cell cycle and DNA synthesis or function, activating the DNA damage response (DDR). In cancer, this process is frequently altered by deregulated expression or function of several genes […]
